With their ground-breaking and cutting-edge reggae infused sound, they have guided and inspired a generation of MCs and producers the world-over.

From his musical beginnings in the late 1980s with the seminal London Posse crew, Rodney P has become a leading voice for UK hip-hop. His list of collaborations is diverse and impressive, including industry giants, Roots Manuva, The Nextmen, Skinny Man and Black Twang, with even Bjork featuring on the roll-call.

As well as this, he has established the pioneering Riddim Killa label and released a barrage of club anthems, while also working extensively across radio and TV.

Alongside him is DJ Skitz, who after discovering a love for hip-hop in the mid-80s, released his debut 12" in 1996, Skitz alongside Roots Manuva. He then went on to release the classic and critically acclaimed album, Countryman, and work with artists such as Roni Size, Sain Supa Crew, Million Dan, DJ Die, Kardinal Offishal and Deadly Hunta.

Skitz has also compiled the infamous Bad Meaning Good and Homegrown compilations and has toured and played extensively across the world while also co-hosting the flagship BBC 1Xtra hip-hop show, Original Fever, with Rodney P.

The two reach New Zealand to bring their heavyweight live shows to the celebrated Ghetto Red Hot series, renowned around the country for spreading the blazing hot musical combination of heavy 80s, 90s and current dancehall reggae with the classic old-school and new-school of Jamaican influenced hip-hop from the UK, US, Canada, Europe and NZ. Always a night to remember and served up by the best of the best, and fittest of the fittest local DJs and MCs.

Known throughout New Zealand and internationally as Australasia's premier exponents of authentic roots dancehall music, Dubwize present their new 16 track CD album – the first solo release by Snypa Levi – The Sojourner.

Snypa Levi – The Sojourner is the culmination of the crew's musical journey through rhythm and rhyme. It follows on from their previous releases, To the Control Tower (2002) and Reality Chant (2003), both albums building strong foundations for the group while also being instrumental in defining the contemporary Aotearoa reggae landscape.

All tracks on the album were produced by Gabriel 'Messenjah' Calcott, founder of the Reality Chant label. Along-with fellow Dubwize member, Nava 'Confucius' Thomas, Messenjah has fused together a mix of Snypa's powerful vocals, some of the country's best session musicians and his own expertly crafted rhythms, creating an album that brings together both tight digital programming and heavy one-drop roots.

With special guest vocal appearances from Jah Mason (JA), Raggadon (Eskimo Squad, UK) and Tuff Enchant (Zimbabwe).

The philosophy of the Reality Chant Label is the promotion of roots and culture to uplift the people through the positive message of reggae music, love, unity and the teachings of Rastafari. As Snypa states: 'What has inspired me to press on, is finally accepting the fact that I was put on this earth to deliver the message of "one love" through my music.

An unparalleled musical event with one of the world's most celebrated Reggae artists - JUNIOR "ONE BLOOD" REID (ex-BLACK UHURU) - touching down for the first time in New Zealand, for two shows only.

Delroy "Junior" Reid was born in the West Kingston, Jamaica, district of Waterhouse in 1965. He recorded his first single at age 14, subsequently forming his own band, THE VOICE OF PROGRESS. Reid moved on to work with Sugar Minott's YOUTH PROMOTION label, from which he produced classics such as ORIGINAL FOREIGN MIND and SEE HOW ME BLACK SEE HOW ME SHINE, increasingly becoming a voice for the ghetto youth. He graduated to the eminent and legendary KING JAMMY'S STUDIO where he took his music to even greater heights with definitive productions including YOUTHMAN, BANK CLERK and SUFFERATION.

Reid then took a step that would impact on the Reggae world at large, when he became lead vocalist for the famed group BLACK UHURU. The band's first album, BRUTAL, was released to international acclaim in 1986. After two years with the group, Reid's desire to produce his own material saw him move back into the solo arena and back to Jammy's, where the celebrated ONE BLOOD album was recorded and released in 1990.

Always at the cutting edge of Reggae creation, the last decade has seen Reid further seal his reputation as a true innovator, with collaborations and crossovers into the Hip Hop world, working with artists such as WU TANG CLAN, BUSTA RHYMES, FAT JOE, RICK ROSS and T-PAIN. His recent work with MIMS on the smash hit, THIS IS WHY I'M HOT (remix) saw Reid touch a new generation worldwide.

Joined by the award winning DJ and remix producer - DJ POWER - who has worked with artists such as BUSTA RHYMES, SEAN PAUL & ELEPHANT MAN, released mix-tapes that have been featured in the NY TIMES, SCRATCH & RIDDIM magazines and is famous for his live blend of Hip Hop and Dancehall.

With Asterix hosting the night inna proper fashion (this man has a voice to be reckoned with, an absolute legend of the NZ reggae scene) and Art droppin the biggest Hip Hop/Dancehall crossover biz that (in my opinion) NZ has seen, we couldn't go wrong!

He's a big wheel in Welly for good reason, not only does he have radio on lock (Active, Homebass & Roots and Culture) he also hosts the baddest Dancehall/Hip Hop club night the capital offers - Ghetto Red Hot. As if thats not reason enough, he also releases the Ghetto Red Hot mix CDs on a regular ting and happens to be the tighest selector you could hope for!
Alongside Art we've mined AK for its biggest Bashment talent - The Jafa Mafia Soundsystem. These bwoys know how its done and promise to run the dancefloor red on the night as they always do! Keep a sharp ear out for this crews massive dub plate special voicings, its a badman ting zeen.
Last but not certainly not least we got none other than myself - Grafta, on the bill. I'll be droppin my personal brand of Dancehall fyah, mad jugglin, refix action and most certainly premiering my latest forthcoming riddim release! Braaaappppp!

Right, had a good time at Sound Splash last weekend but... Anyone for forward thinking Reggae down here? I'm a bit miffed that the New Zealand public seems to want to only listen to bands playing their interpretation of the 1970's sound.
I will say there were a couple crews reppin it for contemporary styles though, Renegade Soundsystem, Stinky Jim, Jafa Mafia, Firehouse Crew & Drulocks (apologies if i've missed anyone). Just that I'd love to hear more bashment at these things, bringin some danceable biz through the early hours. Step up that tempo!
Arggh, nuff rant for one day huh. Bless til next time... time time time... up 2 di time?

I did, dammit all. Sorry no pics from Buss It Up this time around. Let that be no indication of what the night was like though. It was good biz as usual with some big, killer-fresh tunes being pulled by all selectors involved.
Massive thanks to Macdosis for toastin' on my set and also to Racine & Amazin' for droppin their version of Concrete Boots. Safe.
To the random MC that wanted to battle on our set, wait till the next Auckland MC Battle for Supremacy or something. We're there to make people dance, I'm fairly sure they don't come to see you tryna pick a fight. Being obnoxious ain't the way to get a gig. Nuff bout that.

Good to see a solid turnout to Damian Marley last night. A real cross-section of culture, from the older Rasta contingent through to Punks, HipHop heads and young gals bubblin' to the faster ones.
Marley's strength was playing to the fact that he crosses between his own material and his late fathers, instantly hooking in a wider audience than most artists could possibly hope for.
While enjoying the night I would have liked to hear more from Welcome to Jamrock, it seemed like the strength of the album as a whole may have been underestimated. Although, there was a pretty solid, well thought out balance between Jr. Gongs' tracks and the classic reggae material keeping all happy.
All in all, damn fine to see this calibre of artist down here.
